Who or what do we stand up for?
The “Welthaus” community center in downtown Dortmund brings together people who want to make a difference. We create a space for connection, dialogue, and engagement around global justice, sustainability, and social change.
Together with associations, initiatives, and foundations, we raise awareness of issues that affect our future—from climate justice and equal opportunities worldwide to sustainable living in everyday life. In doing so, we are guided by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Whether you want to get involved, meet new people, bring your own ideas to life, or simply attend inspiring events—at Welthaus, you’ll find an open space for community, creative projects, and social engagement right in the heart of Dortmund.
How do we do that?
We do this through joint events, workshops, cultural evenings, hands-on activities, and open meetings where people can come together, learn from one another, and share their own ideas.
At Welthaus, we connect students, organizations, initiatives, and engaged individuals, creating space for exchange, creative projects, and new perspectives. In doing so, we link global issues with local daily life—in a practical, open, and collaborative way.
Whether it’s sustainability events, intercultural encounters, political education, creative activities, or community breakfasts: we want to make engagement low-threshold, inspiring, and accessible to everyone.
But you can also just come to the Welthaus for a fair-trade coffee or a bottle of still water ;).
How can you get involved?
Joining us is easy—whether you’re already active or just want to check it out.
You can:
- take part in our events, workshops, and community gatherings,
- contribute your own ideas and projects,
- help out with campaigns or organizational tasks,
- network with other engaged people,
- use spaces for exchange, learning, and creative collaboration,
- or work with us to develop new formats focused on sustainability, global justice, and social change
What opportunities are there to get involved with us?
You can volunteer with us on a long-term, occasional, or one-time basis.
What can we always use - what do we need?
We’re always happy to welcome people, ideas, and support that bring our projects and community space to life. We’re especially looking for:
dedicated people who want to help organize or contribute their own ideas,
help with events, workshops, and community activities,
creative skills such as social media, graphic design, photography, music, or event hosting,
in-kind donations for events and the community space (e.g., coffee, tea, equipment, decorations, or materials),
partnerships with initiatives, university groups, and sustainable projects,
Financial support or sponsorship partnerships to keep our offerings open and accessible,
and people who simply drop by regularly and become part of the community.
In short: Every form of engagement, support, and new perspective helps the Welthaus continue to grow as an open space for sustainability, global justice, and community.
