Freshmen and Chancellor plant "ErstTrees"

Expanding the "ErstTrees" collection together: first semester students, student council and project team with UAS Chancellor Svenja Stepper (front center).

New trees at the start: in keeping with tradition, the first-year students of the Faculty of Architecture have once again planted "ErstTrees". At the start of the 2023/24 winter semester, the existing stock of around 600 hornbeams, rowanberries and sweet chestnuts has grown by around 200 specimens.

UAS Chancellor Svenja Stepper (right), here with Laura Wiederhold and Guido Kollert from the project team, was more than happy to lend a hand.

This time, the project team led by Laura Wiederhold and Guido Kollert as well as students from the student council provided active support for the campaign on the grounds of the Dorstfeld cemetery. UAS Chancellor Svenja Stepper also took the opportunity to enthusiastically grab a spade - and enrich the grove with a small plum tree.

A green start to your studies

Since the 2020/21 winter semester, the "ErstTrees" project has stood for a green start to studies. It makes first-year students aware of the sustainable resources they need to consider when planning buildings and how materials such as wood can be reused. The trees, which students are responsible for caring for as they progress through their studies, also create a symbolic and tangible link to the topic of sustainability.
