"Fachwissen zum Mittag" online lecture series

Open Educational Resources (OER) are ideal for early career researchers to gain greater visibility in their own research and teaching focus. OER are educational materials of all kinds that are freely available worldwide and differ only slightly from traditional digital media. The aim of the workshop is to provide an overview of the future topic of open education as well as practical tips for the use, production and publication of OER.

Dr. Sina Nitzsche is project coordinator for the online state portal ORCA.nrw at the Institute for Higher Education Didactics at Fachhochschule Dortmund. Her work focuses on open education, media didactics and diversity-sensitive teaching.

Open Access means free access to scientific publications for interested parties from all target groups via the Internet. It allows the fast and unhindered dissemination of scientific information and thus creates more attention for research results.

The lecture provides an overview of the history, possibilities, advantages and disadvantages of Open Access publishing. In addition, different variants and financing models will be explained and the services of the Fachhochschule Dortmund library relating to Open Access will be presented.

Eva Schameitat studied library and information science in Stuttgart and Leipzig. She has been working as a librarian at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts since 2016. Her work focuses on publication services and open access, managing the university bibliography as well as public relations, cataloging, counseling and training. She has been involved in the "Fachwissen zum Mittag" series from the very beginning, not only as a speaker but also as part of the organizational team.

The lecture will shed light on the use of AI tools such as ChatGPT for academic writing: What can ChatGPT do, what can't it do, and when is a text created with ChatGPT plagiarized?

Maik Poetzsch studied political science at the University of Bielefeld and at the Free University of Berlin. Maik Poetzsch is project manager in the project "PlagStop.nrw" and research assistant in the project "Bausteine computergestützter Datenanalyse". At Fachhochschule Dortmund, he leads the Good Scientific Practice Round Table and creates digital learning modules for scientific work and data analysis with Python and R.

The input on literature research includes an explanation of the literature search engine RiO offered by the UAS library, including search tips and a brief introduction to relevant subject databases. The event serves to deepen the research knowledge of (junior) researchers and shows how to ensure the findability of their own publications. A detailed live demonstration and the opportunity to ask individual questions round off the offer.

Johanna Munkelt completed her Bachelor's degree in Library Science at the TH Cologne in 2018. After completing her studies, she moved to Fachhochschule Dortmund, where she has been working as a librarian since 2018. Her main areas of work are cataloging, reference services and training, in particular getting started with literature research and the correct use of subject databases. She is also part of the organizing team for the "Fachwissen zum Mittag" series.

Research data is the basis for gaining scientific knowledge and should be stored in a traceable manner for at least 10 years in accordance with the DFG's rules of good scientific practice. But what exactly does that mean? In order to store research data sustainably and for a longer period of time, special concepts need to be applied, which can be summarized as the FAIR principles. This event will give you an insight into the measures required to make your data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable, i.e. FAIR. This will lay the foundation for you to be able to find, open and understand what you did 10 years ago.

Olaf Kletke studied biology at the Ruhr University Bochum, where he completed his doctorate. As a postdoctoral researcher, he conducted research into neurophysiology and cardiophysiology at Düsseldorf University Hospital. Olaf Kletke has been working in the field of research data management at the Technical University of Dortmund since 2017. He has been head of the Research Data Management department since 2021 and coordinates the central research data service as a point of contact for all questions relating to data management.

Prof. Dr. Helmut Hachul has been teaching and researching at Fachhochschule Dortmund since 2006. Through his positions as Dean of Studies and Dean in the Faculty of Architecture, as Vice-Rector for Teaching and Internationalization and most recently as a committed professorial member of the PKNRW, he has become very familiar with the university and the adjacent instances and interfaces. He heads the Master's degree course "Metal Building Envelopes" and, where possible, guides graduates in third-party funded research and doctorates. In the area of internationalization, he has promoted the privileged partnership with MSU Denver and, together with the Faculty of Design, offers regular cooperative exchange formats for teaching.

Prof. Dr. Claus Vormann has been teaching Business Studies, in particular Human Resource Management, in the Faculty of Business Studies since the beginning of 2022. He previously worked in various functions and companies in HR management. He has been active on LinkedIn since 2011.

Copyright forms the core of intellectual property rights for scientific and creative results and therefore requires special consideration. The lecture provides an overview of the most important provisions, with a special focus on publishers.

Astrid Weber studied law at the Ruhr University Bochum and works as a lawyer in the transfer office at Fachhochschule Dortmund. For many years, she has been dealing with the legal classification and protection of scientific results and their usability.

Literature management programs can make academic work and writing easier when used sensibly. But which program is suitable for what? Are there alternatives for different operating systems? Is the use of a reference management program always necessary?

The event is intended to provide an overview of the most common reference management programs and help you decide whether and which software is suitable for your individual writing process.
