The loan period for books is 90 calendar days. Due to this long period, there are no renewals.

Please also note that the loan period is shortened if a medium is reserved by another person during the lending period.

You can check the loan periods for your borrowed items at any time in your online library account.

You can easily log in to your library account and for interlibrary loans with your FH email address and the corresponding password.

To use the self-checkout devices, you need a four-digit PIN, which you can assign in your library account in the "Personal details" section. There is a button for changing your own access data.

Let us know if you are missing a book - in print or as an e-book - in our inventory! Simply fill out our acquisition suggestion form(Opens in a new tab) . We will check your suggestion and then let you know by e-mail whether the requested book will be acquired for the library.

Lost media must be replaced. The same applies to badly damaged media. Please check all media for damage before lending and inform the library staff if necessary.

Various search tools are available for literature searches. These offer different functionalities and provide different search results. Unfortunately, we can only go into the details as part of a training course or individual counseling, but most of the search tools are self-explanatory and intuitive to use for a simple initial search. So here are just a few particularly important tips:

• Our literature search engine RiO not only searches the library's holdings, but also other sources. Here you will not only find books and e-books as a whole, but also individual articles, as well as in the Digital Library (DigiBib).
• You can access many electronic resources (e-books, e-journals) directly via RiO with one click - but only from the campus network or from home via the VPN client. Forprinted books, please remember or make a note of the shelf mark, which you can then use to find the book on the shelf.

Payment by bank transfer is only possible for amounts of 10 euros or more. Account details are available on request(Opens in a new tab) .

Media that are not on loan cannot be reserved. A reservation is only possible if the desired book is currently on loan.

If you have placed a reservation for a borrowed book, you will receive a notification by e-mail or post as soon as it is available. You then have seven opening days to collect it.

Registration usually takes place in person at one of our three locations. For professors and permanent employees in teaching and research, we require an ID card and identity card.

Temporary employees in teaching and research should submit a certificate from the relevant dean's office stating the fixed-term period and their ID card.

Books and other media are generally acquired via the library.

Media that are required for teaching or research and should be accessible in the library can be proposed for acquisition via the corresponding online form(Opens in a new tab) .

Media that are to be permanently available as part of a reference collection as part of official duties are financed from own funds and ordered via a request form(Opens in a new tab)  (form on the intranet).

Yes, please send us a request form(Opens in a new tab)  and tick "to be passed on to students/third parties".

Access to e-books, e-journals, videos and databases is possible from any device within the UAS network. All students, employees and guests of Fachhochschule Dortmund can also dial into the network on site via WIFI or from home via VPN and access the library's digital media.

Yes, when you publish a document online via PubliDo, our university publication server, a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is generated for it. In addition, your document will receive a URN (Uniform Resource Name) as a further digital identifier.

You can also obtain an ISBN from the library. Please send an e-mail to publizierenfh-dortmundde and we will get in touch with you.

Yes, in our training courses, students gain valuable knowledge for targeted research in our literature search engine RiO. On request, we can also provide basic knowledge of how to use certain subject databases.

We also offer special training courses on specific topics once a semester, for which students can register via the university's Career Service.

Yes, we set up reserve collections with printed materials in the respective library on site. However, digital reserve collections are also possible. Read more about this on the page linked below.

Yes, this is possible. If you wish, you can issue a power of attorney for the assistant. Please use our proxy form PDF-File 82,97 kB  for this purpose. You can send us the completed form by e-mail.

The authorized person can also place interlibrary loan requests in your name.

Yes, if we do not need the room for training courses or other events, the room can be booked free of charge by FH employees and lecturers.
