"The World between Paper and Surface" was an exhibition of works by some first semester students on the "Analog Printing Processes" course at Fachhochschule Dortmund, in which works of art on relevant subjects were created using relief and intaglio printing techniques.
The focus of the artwork was both the exploration of the surface as a contemporary means of expression, as well as the poetry of the experiments and their reproducibility, which is a central characteristic of the medium. The works on display were created using linocut, drypoint, etching, aquatint and chine-collé. The central idea of the course was not only to learn and develop the technical aspects, but also to reflect on the relevance of these traditional processes in the 21st century.
The students dealt with various topics including social media, derealization, excessive demands, grief, climate change and cultural values and produced works on these topics.
