About the project

Prototype of a planted concrete façade panel

In the elective seminar on building materials technology - specialization of the winter semester 2019/2020, students developed exemplary façade panels measuring 60 x 60 cm made of self-compacting concrete. The façade panels should be able to be planted and thus form a green façade by adding several elements. The element had to contain a container to hold the soil and also have an open area/hole of approx. 50% of the surface so that it can also serve as a shading element in front of a glass façade, for example.

The seminar was divided into three parts and was worked on in teams of two. In the first theoretical part, the task was examined by means of short presentations by the teams. In the second conceptual part, a concept was developed and finally presented using models and posters. In the third practical part, a selection of designs was implemented in practice on a 1:1 scale in the laboratory.
