Type design - the most subtle form of visual communication
Anyone who can read decodes type in a matter of seconds and then plunges into the content. The process of reading is completely unconscious for reading professionals, the content counts, the form is perceived subcutaneously at best, unless it hinders the process of deciphering. This may sound disappointing to type designers at first, but in reality it is precisely this fact that gives type design meaning. This is because the shape of the letters unconsciously influences how the text (which they form) is perceived. This is why designers, publishers and authors, magazines, books, posters, corporate design, exhibitions and buildings constantly need new typefaces, subtle changes, radical reinterpretations, the exploration of legibility and elegant optimizations.
Trend radar and seismograph
The small differences in the design of typefaces make a big difference in the interpretation of what is written. For over 15 years, Typodarium has been the seismograph and pacemaker of the vibrant type design scene worldwide. Here you will find the trends at first hand. Radical and only familiar at first glance. Spacious display fonts and frugal bread fonts. Sophisticated reinterpretations and attention-grabbing divas of typography.
And incidentally, the Typodarium accompanies you through the year in a colorful and richly shaped way.
The treasure chest of type design ...
Perhaps you simply enjoy the decorative numbers every day, the letters on the fronts that are so different only at second glance. Or perhaps your attention is drawn first thing in the morning to the colorful back pages with information on the fonts, typeface index, reading samples, details of designers and sources of supply. Or perhaps you are one of those type aficionados who like to be ahead of their time and leaf through the "Yearbook of Type" disguised as a calendar before the New Year - always on the lookout for type trends and the font that best conveys your content.
No matter how you use your Typodarium, we have designed the sturdy box as a treasure chest for your favorite typefaces. But you can also store cufflinks or earrings in it ...
The editors/designers
Raban Ruddigkeit and Lars Harmsen literally hear the grass grow, they have their ears on the pulse of the times, they scout young talents in type design and observe when "old hands" hatch new font design Easter eggs. They put together the new annual type design compilations. Julia Uplegger turns this treasure trove into a varied calendar that accompanies you through the year in a dynamic and decorative way.
The icing on the cake for 2025
Warm and cold, big and small, fat and lean - contrasts explore the spectrum of life and bring dynamism and dialectics into everyday life: what would Sunday be without the working days?
That's why the Typodarium presents different "Sunday roasts" of type design every year. This year, the Sundays are dedicated to contrast: bold and fine, smear and spread, high contrast sans serif. No ifs and buts.
