General information on accessibility on the Max-Ophüls-Platz (MOP) campus
The buildings on the Max-Ophüls-Platz campus are historical, listed buildings that cannot be used barrier-free due to their structural substance. Please note the following:
- The main entrance to the building is only accessible via a staircase.
- A ramp can be set up and used at the rear entrance by prior arrangement. Only the rooms on the first floor are accessible via the ramp.
- There are no automatic door openers inside the building.
- The building does not have an elevator.
- There is no central barrier-free entrance from which all rooms can be reached. The site plan for the building therefore shows three entrances with the rooms that can be reached without steps from here.
- The gate is only accessible from the outside and inside via steps .
- There are no automatic door openers inside the building.
- A large part of the Max-Ophüls-Platz 2 building can be reached from the inside via an elevator.
Information for blind and visually impaired people on accessibility on the Max-Ophüls-Platz (MOP) campus
- No tactile guidance system on the paths to the MOP campus or on the campus itself.
- The rooms in the Max-Ophüls-Platz 2 building are marked in Braille.
- The traffic lights on the route from the "Kreuzstraße" subway station to the MOP campus are signal lights that vibrate when green.
Note on arrival via Dortmund main station
Dortmund Central Station is still being renovated until 2024. Therefore, not all tracks are currently (2023) accessible. Information on accessibility can be found on the Deutsche Bahn station website.
Arrival by subway
From the direction of "Dortmund Hauptbahnhof" take the U45 to the stop "Stadtgarten" and change there:
- either change to the U42 line in the direction of Grevel and get off at the "Kreuzstraße" stop
- or take the U45 or U46 lines to the "Westfalenhallen" stop.
- Coming from"Stadtgarten ": get out and go right to the escalators.
- Coming from "Dortmund Hauptbahnhof": get out and go left to the escalators.
- Go in the direction of "Exit South" and take the escalator up. Take the next escalator up on the right. Follow the small path towards Westfalenhallen.
- Alternatively, take the elevator south (elevator between the tracks). Once at the top, follow the path to the left towards Westfalenhallen.
- After crossing a small crossing, follow the path across the Westfalenhallen grounds for approx. 300 meters. At the end of the path, cross the bridge over the highway. The bridge is very steep.
- You walk directly towards the main entrance and the gate of the building. The main entrance and the gate can only be reached via steps.
- Step-free entrances to various parts of the building are located in the inner courtyard.
- Walk past the building and after about 20 meters turn right into a driveway. Follow this for another 20 meters and then turn right into the inner courtyard of Campus MOP.
- For barrier-free access, via which most of the building can be reached, turn right after the stairs. Then walk towards the corner of the building and directly towards the elevator.
- Regardless of which direction you are coming from: take the escalator to the exit and then the right-hand escalator to the top.
- Once at the top, follow Kreuzstraße straight ahead for about 300 meters.
- Walk past the bus stop to the traffic lights and then turn right onto Lindemannstraße.
- From there, follow the road straight ahead for just under 500 meters past the petrol station.
- There is a set of traffic lights with a pedestrian island on the left. Cross the next set of traffic lights with a pedestrian island, which is now on your right.
- After crossing, follow the road straight ahead for 300 meters. The building Max-Ophüls-Platz 1 is then on your left.
- For the main entrance to Max-Ophüls-Platz 2, which is only accessible via steps, continue straight ahead for about 30 meters. Then go up the stairs on the left. The foyer and gate are located here.
- The step-free entrances to Max-Ophüls-Platz 2 are located at the beginning of the building. Coming from the subway, walk past the Max-Ophüls-Platz 1 building about 10 meters further on. Turn left into the entrance to the inner courtyard of Max-Ophüls-Platz 2. Follow this for about 20 meters and then turn right into the inner courtyard of Campus MOP.
- For barrier-free access, via which most of the building can be reached, turn right after the stairs, then walk towards the corner of the building and directly towards the elevator.
Arrival by car
- The Max-Ophüls-Platz campus is located directly on the Bundesstraße 1 (B1). The B1 can be reached via the A1, A44 and A45 highways.
- From Kamener Kreuz, AK Do/Unna, Westhofener Kreuz: Exit "ZVS/WDR" (Lindemannstraße), after about 100 meters turn right onto Max-Ophüls-Platz 2.
- From AK Do/Witten: Exit "ZVS/WDR", turn right at the exit onto Wittekindstraße. Then turn right at the traffic lights onto Lindemannstraße, after 150 meters turn left onto Max-Ophüls-Platz 2.
- From AK Do-West and AK Do Nordwest: Take the "ZVS/WDR" exit, turn right at the exit onto Wittekindstraße. After about 350 meters turn right into Lindemannstraße. Then after 150 meters turn left onto Max-Ophüls-Platz 2.
- Barrier-free parking spaces are located in the inner courtyard of the Max-Ophüls-Platz 2 building.
- The main entrances to the Max-Ophüls-Platz 1 and 2 buildings are only accessible via steps.
- The step-free entrances to the Max-Ophüls-Platz 2 building are located in the inner courtyard.
