Laboratory for energy automation and grid management (EN)

Fast facts

Profile

In the laboratory for energy automation and grid management (EN), students are trained in the control and monitoring of energy grids.

Several practicals are completed in this laboratory during the course of study. In the second semester, the "Software Technology 2" practical course is offered in the Energy Management study program, which serves as an introduction to the digital information world of network management and is based on the TCP/IP network protocol and the Python programming language.

In the fourth semester, students learn how to parameterize a grid control system based on a small project as part of the "Energy information technology and control systems" practical course. In the fifth semester, the practical course "Grid management and control" teaches the basis of so-called "higher decision-making and optimization functions (HEO)" for managing grids.

In particular, at the end of the course, students should have an understanding of how the grid is switched in order to provide a secure supply and what requirements are placed on grid components.

Bachelor's and Master's theses take place in this laboratory, which can be used to successfully complete the course.
