Healthy materials and innovative building materials play a more important role than ever in 21st century architecture. In addition, climate change and the scarcity of raw materials are increasingly influencing the construction sector.
Against this background, the Department of Building Materials Technology, in cooperation with "RAUMPROBE I MATERIAL BANK" from Stuttgart, presented numerous exciting materials and innovations in the foyer of the Faculty of Architecture. The exhibition provides a comprehensive insight into the topic. Relevant materials are presented using samples and important background information on ecology and sustainability is provided in greater depth by the accompanying poster exhibition. Hannes Bäuerle (Managing Director of "raumprobe") gave an exciting guest lecture at the opening of the exhibition.
Parallel to the special exhibition, the students of the 1st semester deal with material as a construction and design material as part of the semester-accompanying exercise "MATERIAL EXPERIENCE". Students analyze the technical data and building material/product-specific properties of a material, particularly from the point of view of sustainability.
The aim is to train perception for a better understanding in later practical professional life and to raise awareness of the different building materials with regard to resource conservation and energy efficiency. The results of the Building Materials Technology 1 course will be presented next year.
