Many people are only familiar with the peculiarities of American criminal law from films and series. Alvin Malesky(Opens in a new tab) , Ph.D., Full Professor at Western Carolina University(Opens in a new tab) in the USA, deepened this knowledge in a lecture in the Faculty of Applied Social Studies on November 28, 2024.
At the invitation of Prof. Dr. Jochem Kotthaus(Opens in a new tab) , Alvin Malesky spoke to a packed seminar room on the "Principle of Insanity in American Criminal Law". The differences to the subtleties and peculiarities of legal reality in the USA quickly became apparent. Alvin Malesky not only introduced around 70 students and many colleagues from the faculty to the topic from a clinical psychiatric perspective, but also took the audience through an analysis of an individual case.
Closer cooperation planned
The faculty is networked with a large number of American universities and already cooperates with them at various levels (teaching, publications, research).
