Kinofest Lünen shows films by FH students

Published

Students at the Faculty of Design developed their trailer ideas for Kinofest Lünen in a seminar.

The 33rd Kinofest Lünen not only has several films by students from Fachhochschule Dortmund in its program. This time, the official trailer for the renowned festival is also a student contribution from the Faculty of Design at the UAS.

As a symbolic figure, the flower woman Lüdia has accompanied the Kinofest Lünen for years and is awarded as an audience prize in the form of a miniature statue. However, Lüdia has probably never appeared on the screen as colorful and dynamic as this year. The film "COLORS" by UAS student Ronit Winkler will be shown before every film screened at Kinofest Lünen from 29 November to 3 December 2023. "The playful and colorful animation trailer stands for diversity and thus for a varied program," says festival director Sonja Hofmann. The trailer lets Lüdia "shine perfectly" on its 33rd birthday.

Promoting up-and-coming filmmakers from the region is what the festival director as well as Oliver Schwabe and Sandra Hacker, who both hold a professorship in film at Fachhochschule Dortmund, are all about. For the first time, students at their Faculty of Design had the opportunity to exclusively design the trailer for the cinema festival in the summer semester of 2023. "The students were largely free to develop the idea, the only requirement was a length of around one minute," reports Oliver Schwabe. In addition to the Film study program, the Object and Spatial Design study program under the direction of Prof. Anne-Kathrin Schulz was also involved. In the end, the festival management selected the trailer for the 33rd Kinofest from nine proposals - and decided in favor of the contribution by Dortmund-born Ronit Winkler.

Another trailer created in the seminar will be used in this year's industry focus "Artificial Intelligence in Film Production": "Dream Worlds" by Jan Klingenberg, Vico Vincent Wiese, Sarah Allweyer and Sara Kemmann.

Program with FH films

At the heart of the cooperation between Kinofest Lünen and Fachhochschule Dortmund is the presentation of numerous current films by students in a separate, curated program focus, which provides an insight into the diverse productions that are created at Fachhochschule Dortmund every year.

Background to the degree programs involved

In the Film & Sound study program(Opens in a new tab)  at Fachhochschule Dortmund, students specializing in film and sound design work together on film projects for a wide variety of platforms. They come together in teams and plan and realize film projects that can be fictional, documentary or experimental. The focus is on teaching the creative and technical basics of film production and post-production and concentrating on a comprehensive understanding of audio-visual storytelling.

The Object and Spatial Design(Opens in a new tab)  study program is dedicated to three-dimensional storytelling in a variety of ways - the design of three-dimensional spaces and objects to turn them into experiences and events for stores, trade fairs, interior design, films, stages, museums, architecture and public spaces.
