About the project
Motivation
In the age of digital transformation, household appliances are taking on more and more assistance functions in everyday life, as functional and service offerings are constantly being expanded. However, the use of appliances often still follows the old paradigm of "one for all" - i.e. a user interface that is the same for all users.
Goals and approach
The aim of the project is to break this paradigm and enable individual, interactive, customized operation of devices that grows and adapts with the respective user over the entire lifespan of a device. This reduces complexity and enables better operation overall. Technically, various contextual information such as a user's wishes, abilities and resources, as well as environmental or ambient information, will be used to derive the personalized interface. The methods used will be developed together with potential users in an interdisciplinary project. A key role is played by primarily local processing, so that legally compliant and ethically acceptable data use is possible.
Innovations and prospects
The concept of this individualized operation of devices enables greater user-friendliness through the targeted reduction of complexity. It also creates the basis for innovative business models in the area of household appliances.
