In teaching, the case study methodology uses a planned and coordinated sequence of cases that are as real as possible, the analysis and results of which are the students' task. The focus of the case study methodology lies in a balanced relationship between analysis, decision and discussion in the run-up to and during a course. The lecturer should moderate the discussions by asking specific questions in accordance with the syllabus. Due to the high complexity of innovation management and the multi-layered nature of interdependent subject areas, the case study methodology is particularly suitable. The case studies on innovation management are developed in cooperation with the Center for Applied Studies & Education in Management at Fachhochschule Dortmund.
