Profile
Interdisciplinary cooperation between the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology plays an important role in industry today. From automation technology in systems and machines to electric drives, electrical engineering is becoming increasingly important in mechanical engineering.
In the laboratory for electrical and automation engineering, mechanical engineering students have the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge they have gained in lectures in a practical and hands-on way.
In the "Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering" practical course, students make their first acquaintance with electronic circuits, become familiar with the use of measuring instruments and learn procedures for investigating electrical machines and drives.
An important type of electronic machine control is the programmable logic controller (PLC for short). Students learn how to use such a PLC and how to program it with various development environments in the practical course in control engineering.
The software practical course in the compulsory elective subject "Automation Technology" deals with the modeling and simulation of automated processes. Various programs such as Scilab, Octave and Matlab are used for this purpose. Through the use of demonstrators, students are always shown a practical example from industry.
