Structural damage, both in new buildings and in the renovation and modernization of existing buildings, as well as errors in the context of monument preservation, are often caused by ignorance of elementary building physics laws and interrelationships. Building physics must be seen in close connection with design, building construction, building services and building material technology. Damage-free building construction, the renovation of old buildings and the preservation of historical monuments require a high level of knowledge of building physics.
