The library card entitles you to use the library of Fachhochschule Dortmund. Here you can find out how to obtain it free of charge.
Please note: A separate library card is required to use the TU Dortmund University library, which you can obtain there. Conversely, the services of the FH library cannot be used with a TU library card.
How do I get a library card?
Students of the Fachhochschule Dortmund
The library card is part of the FHCard. You do not need an additional card and do not have to register separately at the library. The barcode and user number are already printed on the back of your card. Please create the PIN required for lending in advance in the online library account. Employees of the Fachhochschule Dortmund
If you would like to use the FHCard as a library card, the library staff can link the card to your existing library account at your request. Please create the PIN required for lending in advance in the online library account. You can find more information here(Opens in a new tab).
TU students, TU employees and external parties
To apply for a library card (or to activate the FHCard for UAS members), your personal data must be entered via our registration form. The card will be issued on site during service hours(Opens in a new tab) at one of the three locations of the University of Applied Sciences Library.
As soon as you have completed and submitted the online registration form, your data will be stored in our system for one week. Within this time, you can have your library card issued at the circulation desk at one of the library's three locations.
If you are unable to collect your library card within one week, your data will be automatically deleted so that you may have to complete the online registration form again.
Please note that you will need to submit additional documents! You will find all the relevant information further down on this page.
Professors and permanent employees in teaching and research
Please present your ID card and your identity card or passport with a registration certificate.
Temporary employees in teaching and research
Please submit a certificate from the relevant dean's office stating the period of limitation as well as your identity card or passport with a registration certificate.
Students of the TU-Dortmund
As a student of TU Dortmund University, please present your student ID or a certificate of enrollment as well as your identity card or passport with registration certificate.
Joint students/Ruhr Master School
As a student in the network, please present your student ID or a certificate of enrollment as well as your identity card or passport with registration certificate. In addition, we require proof of the joint degree program, e.g. a second student certificate from the Ruhr Master School.
Students from other universities/other persons
Please present your identity card or passport with registration certificate.
Minors
In exceptional cases, minors may be admitted for use upon presentation of an informal declaration of consent by a legal representative.
Legal entities
A natural person must be appointed as an authorized representative.
Further information about the library card
What happens if I lose my library card?
If you have lost your library card, please let us know immediately. We will then block your account to prevent misuse by third parties. If you find your card again, we can unblock your account.
If you cannot find your card again, you can apply for a replacement card at any location of the University of Applied Sciences Library. However, we will have to charge you a fee of 10 euros for issuing a second card (according to GebO-IKM NRW § 4). As a rule, the replacement card can be issued on the same day.
What do I have to do if my address changes?
The data of Fachhochschule Dortmund students are transferred from the Office for Student Affairs to the library. In the event of a change of address, please contact the Office for Student Affairs or use the ODS(Opens in a new tab) (online services for students).
All other users can contact the library in person or by e-mail in the event of a change of address.
What login details do I need for the library services?
To use the following library services, you need to log in online or on the relevant device:
View your account (borrowed media, loan periods, etc.)
Change your second e-mail address and your password (password change not for FH members)
Making reservations and placing orders
Internet use in the library (only possible for members of Fachhochschule Dortmund and TU Dortmund University)

Interlibrary loan (only possible for members of Fachhochschule Dortmund)
For the authentication you need
if you are studying/working at the FH, your FH email address with the corresponding password
if you are an external user of the FH library, your library ID and thepassword you have chosen yourself . You can find information about your password and how to assign it on the My account page
for the use of the self-checkout devices your access (FH email address or library number) and a separate four-digit PIN, which you can assign in your library account in the "Personal details" section. This PIN is only used for using the self-checkout devices
