About the person
About the person
I am an industrial engineer specializing in mechanical engineering and completed my doctorate at the University of Kassel between 2009 and 2015 on the topic of "Influence of project management maturity on project success". After working in industry, mainly as head of product development projects in the automotive/special vehicle construction context (including HELLA), I was appointed to Fachhochschule Dortmund in 2022.
The main focus of my teaching is on project management. Students and theses supervised by me have already been awarded prizes (Andreas Winkelbach, German Project Management Award of the GPM, 2011, category Master's thesis; Anna Lucia Romero Müller, Best Graduate of the Faculty of Business Studies, 2024) and resulted in publications (e.g. Aschoff et al., 2013, Tailoring internal project management standards for energy plant construction projects. Project management in the energy sector, Springer: Berlin, 125-145).
Together with my team, I am currently focusing on the following research areas in particular
- Project management of digital transformation projects
- Agile/hybrid project management
- Project management in product development
I have corresponding networks in industry/business (thyssenkrupp Digital Projects, Vorwerk, ...) and in academia.
If you are interested in working with me, please contact me!

Anwesha Mukherjee, external doctoral student
Ms. Mukherjee is a business economist and has been researching the influence of soft factors, such as (servant) leadership, on the success of agile managed projects on a part-time basis since completing her Master's degree (European Master in Project Management, Fachhochschule Dortmund, 2022). Her doctorate is being carried out in cooperation with the University of Kassel, Institute of Ergonomics and Process Management / Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In addition to her work in management consulting, she is very interested in generative AI and digital twin technology and has founded a start-up in this context that offers members of Generation Z guidance on career issues using AI. At the IEEE IDAACS Conference 2023 (Intelligent Data Acquisition and Advanced Computing Systems), her contribution was voted the best in the project management stream.
Florian Rüttger, PhD student and member of the DigiTransPro research project
Mr. Rüttger is an industrial engineer (specializing in electrical engineering), holds a master's degree in project management (European Master in Project Management, Fachhochschule Dortmund, 2019) and has been working on an industrial doctorate since the end of 2023. In this context, he is employed part-time in the above-mentioned research project and at Vorwerk Elektrowerke. His doctoral topic combines (agile) product development and digital transformation. The doctorate is being carried out in cooperation with the Department of Graphic Design and Engineering Projects at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) Bilbao, Spain.

Teaching
Courses
I offer courses in the following subject areas in the study programs "European Master in Project Management (EuroMPM)" and "International Business Management" (Bachelor and Master):
- Project management (e.g. "Project planning & controlling", "Managing global business projects")
- Scientific work
- Practical projects
- Intercultural skills
Final theses
For your empirical or literature-based/conceptual thesis, please contact me by e-mail. You should contact me approximately three to six months before the desired registration date for your thesis. Due to the high volume of theses from the European Master in Project Management, I can only accept a limited number of theses from students of other study programs. There is no list of topics. You are welcome to use the topics listed on this page under "Research" as a guide. In principle, it is possible to work in cooperation with companies. I will be happy to discuss further conditions with you.
