Thanks to the service agreement on mobile working, you as an employee of Fachhochschule Dortmund are flexible and can thus reconcile your private life and work as required. Mobile working is characterized by the ability to work at a flexible location. This means that you do not necessarily have to work at a fixed workstation at home. All employees receive important health and safety information in advance so that they can take part in mobile working.
You will receive your own company laptop for mobile working . By using digital platforms, effective team communication can be maintained even when working remotely.

A successful induction of new employees is very important to us, which is why we would like to welcome you to Fachhochschule Dortmund in a holistic way so that your heart beats orange.
In your first few days and weeks, you will be supported by a start mentor who, in addition to introducing you to the content of your tasks, will pay particular attention to social integration so that you can network as quickly as possible.
We also offer an information day for new employees every six months. On this day, we would like to introduce you to our university of applied sciences in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. After an informal welcome by the Chancellor and the Rector, you will be given a tour of our locations. Finally, you can network over a snack together.

Working with a child
The Family Service will be happy to inform you about all the offers that you can use with your child or children as an employee to better reconcile family and career.
Day care centers of the AWO Dortmund sub-district
Since the end of 2012, Fachhochschule Dortmund has had a cooperation agreement with the AWO Dortmund sub-district. This gives both students and employees the opportunity to obtain a childcare place for their child. The AWO Dortmund sub-district is currently responsible for 16 childcare facilities spread across the city of Dortmund. Please contact the family service for further information.
"Die FrecHdachse" - U3 childcare by the multi-generational house Mütterzentrum - Dortmund e.V.
In the lovingly furnished rooms of the "FrecHdachse" at Rheinlanddamm 201a, a total of 9 children of UAS members are currently looked after by two qualified childminders. The children are aged between two months and three years.
The premises consist of a kitchen where the children have breakfast together every morning, a quiet room and a bedroom as well as a playroom. The outdoor play area is also used.
MoKi - Mobile childcare
Your childminder is ill and you have an important appointment at the university? You have the option of using MoKi for such and similar bottlenecks. Your child will be looked after within an agreed distance from you on the university premises while you have an important appointment at the university, for example. Mobile childcare does not replace regular childcare, but it is your short-term care close to the university for emergencies and off-peak times.
In addition to MoKi, MoKi online has established itself as an online childcare service. For example, children can use a video conferencing system to chat with a MoKi supervisor and other children and listen to stories being read aloud.
Vacation care by the company Kita|Concept
Is your child's head spinning during the vacations? During the first weeks of the summer school vacations and during the Easter and fall vacations (NRW), children between the ages of 6 and 13 have the opportunity to register for the Fachhochschule Dortmund vacation program. Together with children of members of TU Dortmund University, they experience a varied program around the campus of Fachhochschule Dortmund and TU Dortmund University.
Can I take my child to the university in an emergency?
Yes, as a family-friendly university you will find various facilities that you can use with your child.
- Changing tables
At all locations of Fachhochschule Dortmund you will find TÜV-certified changing tables that can be opened up. They are equipped with a mat and a diaper pail. - The Kids-Box
To support parents of slightly older children, play boxes can be lent at all faculties. They contain all kinds of utensils to keep children occupied in a playful way - for example, if the daycare center is on strike or the childminder is unavailable. - Parent-child room
Fachhochschule Dortmund provides its students and employees with children of different ages at all three locations with child-friendly "parent-child rooms", which offer the opportunity to organize themselves while looking after the children, to exchange ideas or simply to take a break.

Working with simultaneous care responsibilities
If you are looking after relatives in need of care alongside your work, the Family Service will be happy to support you. You can discuss your personal situation with our contact person and find out what care insurance benefits your relative in need of care is entitled to and what relief and care options are available. Together, you can consider which support services might be suitable for your situation and discuss with your relatives whether the Family Service should send you contact details of providers.

Dementia
People with dementia in particular have special needs. There are various dementia diseases, of which Alzheimer's disease is probably the best known. The Family Service will provide you with information on the subject of dementia and tell you how a diagnosis can be made if dementia is suspected. You can also find out what respite and support services are available specifically for people with dementia.

Healthy and fit at work
You as a person are at the center of our health management. We want you to feel completely at ease in your workplace. That is why we have made it our goal to create a healthy and attractive working and living environment for you in addition to actively promoting your health.
Break express
Together with your colleagues, you can take an active exercise break. The active break takes place directly at your workplace and don't worry - you don't need sportswear for it.
In cooperation with the university sports department at TU Dortmund University, a qualified Pausenexpress trainer will work with you on stretching, mobilization and strengthening exercises, especially for the shoulder, back and neck muscles. The short sessions are a welcome and, above all, beneficial change from everyday office life. You will also receive helpful tips, e.g. on how to relieve tension yourself with targeted exercises.
University sports
The sports program of the Dortmund University of Technology ranges from A for aerobics, B for body toning and C for cricket to Z for Zumba. By purchasing a sports card, you can try out new sports courses each semester. In addition to the sports courses, you can do individual training on equipment in the "FitnessFörderwerk" fitness studio after a short introductory course.

Run together
Every year in May, two great running events take place where you can work out together with your colleagues.
- Campus run
Here you run several laps around the campus of the Technical University and Fachhochschule Dortmund on Emil-Figge-Straße. One lap is 2.5 kilometers long. You can register for various disciplines and compete with your colleagues. - B2Run
The B2Run is a company run in Dortmund. The course is almost 7 kilometers long and starts in Westfalenpark. The highlight is the running lap through the Borussia Dortmund stadium. In addition to the sporting ambition, the focus is on getting to know each other personally and exchanging ideas.
Cycling to work
You can take advantage of various bike rental offers:
- Company bicycles
You can borrow our company bicycles free of charge during working hours to travel between the individual locations. One contact person is responsible for lending bikes at each location. - Nextbike - Metropolrad Ruhr
You can borrow bikes from Metropolrad Ruhr at many locations in Dortmund and at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts. You can use the Nextbike app to ride for 60 minutes free of charge. After that, there is a charge of €0.50 per 30 minutes.
If your bike tire is low on air or a screw is too loose, you can use the public service stations for bicycles at our locations.
Need a little relaxation?
If you feel tension in the shoulder and neck area due to your sitting or standing job, you can use our mobile massage. A professional massage team of physiotherapists offers a complete back massage in 20 minutes for a small fee.
Occupational medicine and health and safety management
In cooperation with the Arbeitsmedizinischer und Sicherheitstechnischer Dienst e.V., your occupational health care is provided by a company doctor.

Every two years, participation in the internal certificate program "Leadership Skills" is offered in cooperation with the university's Graduate Center . Academic staff and doctoral candidates are prepared for future management tasks in workshops, best practice days and topic-specific lectures.
