Digitalization is shaping more and more areas of life and work
Technical systems are assisting us humans in more and more activities in order to increase comfort, quality of life, energy efficiency and resource conservation. Examples include autonomous systems in vehicles, robots, drones, machines, smart homes and smart buildings.
This development means that many specialists are needed who are familiar with digitalization processes and technologies at the interface between traditional engineering and modern information technology. In the Bachelor's degree program in Information Technology, you will deal with numerous questions that arise as a result of increasing digitalization and the increasing networking of technology and computer science.
A modern educational concept
The study program teaches modern fundamentals in the fields of artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, data analysis, augmented reality, virtual reality and human-computer interaction. Electrotechnical knowledge is taught in order to be able to record and evaluate real processes using sensor technology. The basics of computer science, from programming to databases, form an increasingly important foundation of information technology. Mathematical, physical and methodological principles are also an important foundation for development, modeling and simulation. You have the opportunity to specialize in areas of study and work in practical and project-oriented teams from the very first semester.
Broad foundations in theory and practice
The seven-semester course variant with a practical semester/ semester abroad gives you the opportunity to spend a whole semester working in a company in Germany or abroad to expand your practical knowledge. Alternatively, you can spend a semester studying at a university abroad. The credits you earn will be recognized as a semester abroad. Stays abroad expand your intercultural skills and are very important in a globalized professional world. You can also decide for or against a semester abroad during your studies. In any case, all credits earned will be recognized and transferred if you switch to another study program.
Bachelor of Science and protected title "Ing."
After successfully completing the program, you will receive a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree and the right to use the protected professional title of engineer (Ing.).
As an engineer in information technology (B.Sc.), you will have a basic and broad-based specialist knowledge. You can handle complex software development projects and work with your own area of responsibility in interdisciplinary teams with designers, architects, engineers and computer scientists as well as service providers in many application areas.
You will master methods for quality assessment and assurance, error analysis and result optimization and incorporate social, societal and ethical aspects and effects into the work process, with the best prospects for a future-proof job. You can also continue your education in one of our Master's study programs at the Ruhr Master School.
